Our History
Our Church was founded in 1808 when John Sincair conveyed one acre of land to several men in the Reedy Creek Settlement with instructions to build a house of worship. Over the next 200+ years, the church would go through several renovations and rebuilds due to age, fires, and even a tornado! The current education center was completed in 1993 and the sanctuary in 2007.
In addition to the building changes, the denomination itself would see increased growth which lead to multiple stretches of separation and readjustments, most recently in May of 2023, when Salem officially disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church and joined the Global Methodist denomonation which is more aligned with traditional Wesleyan beliefs.
If you are interested in learning more about the Salem Methodist Chuch, the complete 200 year history of Salem (1808 – 2008) is available in paperback and can be purchased at the church and can also be found in the archives at Emory & Henry College.
